WB Games Montréal Next Game Should Be This IP

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sometimes in life, you should pick the obvious path. We’ve all had those moments where it was obvious which direction to go in. It happens in life and in games. WB Games Montréal is currently in the position where they choose the next game that they should work on. They should choose the obvious path.

Gotham Knights had many flaws as you can read about in our review of the game. Despite that, it had nuggets of goodness that WB Games Montréal should carry over into their next project. The next project shouldn’t be a sequel to Gotham Knights. No, it should be a different IP. One that sort of goes hand in hand with the framework they used with Gotham Nights. The IP that they should work on next is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Think about it. The structure is already in place. You had four heroes in Gotham Knights. All of them are martial artists, were taught by a stern sensei, and have their own styles that people can play as. Everything fits so confidently that it almost seems like its destiny.

Changes WB Games Montréal Should Make with this TMNT Game:

Here are some changes that WB Games Montréal should adapt to avoid making the same mistakes as they did in Gotham Knights.

Pick a Lane:

First off the team should pick a lane and stick with it. If they want this to be a single-player game really lean into that and give us a game similar to Arkham Origins. Make it a story-driven character-focused game. Have a dynamic and cinematic-like story about the Ninja Turtles having to overcome hardships. I’m all for that. However, if they decide to go multiplayer, which is the direction I think they should go with this project, then really lean into it. Give us a game that allows two or more players to tackle an open world at the same time. If it’s a games as a service then commit to it. The point is that this project should stick to either being a single-player or multiplayer game. Don’t try to appeal to both. Pick and lane and gives us the best possible game in that lane.

Costumes/Skins:

Next regardless of which type of game it is, once again gives us a lot of costumes or skins customization options. The way that you could swap out your character’s looks was one aspect of Gotham Knights that was truly great. Give that same love to the Turtles. Maybe since they don’t really wear costumes you can have different art style options similar to the way you can play as an animated version of Spiderman in Spiderman 2018 and Spiderman Miles Morales.

60 FPS:

Make the game a next Gen exclusive that runs at 60 fps. I’m not one of those people that was extremely bothered by the 30 fps cap that Gotham Knights had. It was probably because I had a plethora of other things that bothered me more. Anyways we are reaching a point where 30 fps isn’t acceptable for a new game. We have these amazing consoles with all the teraflops that can do amazing things with games. It’s time to abandon 30 fps.
This might be stating the obvious, but keep the parts of the game that easily transfer over to the TMNT game. Instead of the Belfry make the sewer hideout the base of operations. Keep the open world and city to explore. Carry over the martial arts combat and the RPG upgrade elements from Gotham Knights. Keep what works and revise the rest and you are halfway there.

Conclusion:

Sometimes in life, we are faced with hard choices while other times the choice is staring us right in the face. For WB Games Montréal the choice for their next game is the obvious path. Abandon the Gotham Knights and embrace the turtle power.
